Studio and Plein Air Impressionist Oil Paintings

Keene Wilson - Biography

After developing a solid artistic background at local Junior Colleges, I refined my artistic skills at the Los Angeles Academy of Figurative Art and at the American Animation Institute under the tutelage of such masters as Glenn Vilppu, Karl Gnass, Nathan Fowkes, Ignat Ignatov, Will Weston and Rey Bustos.  Workshops with Ovanes Berberian, Henry Yan, Steve Huston and Catherine Anderson have also been helpful, but I owe my greatest artistic debt to years of study with my plein air, colorist mentor Elio Camacho and my impressionist mentor Vadim Zangninian.

I hold two masters degrees, am a retired City Manager and a former Army airborne/ranger/green beret having served with Special Forces in Viet Nam.

All of my finished work is in oil, typically painted en plein air, but occasionally painted in the studio. I paint a wide variety of subjects including landscapes, cityscapes, still life, figurative and the occasional watercolor, but I only offer my very best work for sale. I like to emphasize design within harmonious color relationships. I believe that style is simply the way you paint and as my style evolves over time I anticipate an even greater emphasis on brushwork and thicker paint application.
